Privacy

This site sets no tracking cookies and does not follow you across other websites. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to. Nothing here identifies you unless you choose to give an email address.

Analytics

Visitor numbers are measured with Plausible, an open-source analytics tool that runs on my own server rather than a third party's. It records aggregate counts only: which pages were read, the site that linked here, and rough country, device, and browser. It uses no cookies, assigns no persistent identifier, and cannot follow a reader between visits or between sites. Your IP address is used momentarily to work out the country and is never stored. Nothing collected can identify you, and none of it is sold, shared, or sent to an advertising network.

Newsletter

Subscribing does not add you. When you submit the form you are sent one email asking you to confirm. Until you click that link, nothing further is sent and you are not on the list.

What is kept: your email address, the date and time you confirmed, and the IP address your browser used to confirm. The list software also derives a display label from the address itself. You are never asked for your name, and nothing else about you is stored.

Why the IP address: Canadian anti-spam law requires proof that a person asked to be on a list. The confirmation click, its timestamp, and the address it came from are that proof. It is kept for that reason alone and is never used to profile you, and never linked to your browsing of this site.

Where it is kept: on listmonk, open-source software running on a server I rent and administer myself in Helsinki, Finland. It is not a marketing platform and it does not resell data. This website keeps no copy of the list. The emails themselves are transmitted by Amazon Simple Email Service in Canada, which delivers the message and does nothing else with your address.

What the newsletter measures: how many people opened an issue or followed a link, counted in total. Those counts are not tied to individual subscribers.

How long: until you leave. Your address is never sold, rented, or shared, and it is used for this newsletter and nothing else.

Keeping bots off the list: when the signup form is submitted, the connecting IP address is counted in the site's memory for one hour so that one connection cannot flood the list with other people's addresses. It is never written to disk, never attached to your address or to anything you read here, and it is gone within the hour.

Seeing or deleting what is held

Every email carries a link to your own subscription page. From it you can unsubscribe in one click, download a copy of everything held about you, or erase the record permanently. No login, no request, and no reason needed. For anything else, use the contact page.

Contact form

Nothing is stored. The contact form is a delivery path, not a database. What you write is turned into an email, sent to my inbox, and that is the only copy. This website keeps no record of it, and there is no customer system, no contact list, and no ticket queue behind it.

What is sent: the name, email address, topic, and message you typed, and the time you sent it. Your address is set as the reply address so that answering you is one click, which is the whole reason it is asked for. You are never added to the newsletter or any other list by writing to me; those are separate and both need the checkbox.

Who carries it: the message is transmitted by Amazon Simple Email Service in Canada and delivered to a mailbox I administer. Both are covered by the same rule as everything else here: nothing is sold, rented, or shared.

How long: for as long as the email sits in my inbox, the same as any other message anyone sends me. Ask me to delete it and I will.

Keeping bots off it: the same protection as the signup form. Your browser solves a small puzzle before the message is accepted, which needs JavaScript, and the connecting IP address is counted in the site's memory for one hour so that one connection cannot flood the inbox. That count is never written to disk, never attached to your message, and is gone within the hour. If your browser blocks scripts, write to hello@goadedokun.com instead.
